the attic - fremantle

Of course when Craig and I found out that we lived in the same suburb up north, we logically chose Fremantle as our brunch location... Hey, thank goodness we're both the type of people that would travel far for good food.  We decided to hit up The Attic, tucked away on Bannister Street. The small two-levelled cafe blends brilliantly with the rest of the street's rustic, yet vibrant, red-bricked walls of its neighbouring buildings.

Since we woke up extra early to compensate for the travelling time for the trip (It takes us over 40 minutes to get to Freo), we were well hungry by the time we arrived. So what do two hungry brunch lovers do when they order? They decide to pick out three dishes between them, of course.

baked oats

This dish (oats with berry compote) was delicious. To our dismay, we left this one last to try, and we were both completely stuffed and didn't thoroughly get to enjoy and savour the roasted flavour of the dish. Fortunately, and to our surprise, the oats were still warm by the time we dug into it (which I'm sure was well over 30 minutes after all our photos and finishing our other dishes between conversation)...

baked oats, berry compote, cardamom, nut crumble. yoghurt ($12.50).

organic chia and oat bircher muesli

This bircher was honestly delightful! It was a very generous serving, and the flavours of the sour spiced plums, nutty texture of the pistachios and coconut dust, topped with the refreshing taste of the mint worked very harmoniously together.  Along with any bircher order off a menu at any cafe, I would always recommend getting a drink that you can sip between spoonfuls, since it can get quite tiring indulging in the same consistency of bircher.

organic chia & oat bircher, spiced plums, coconut dust, pistachio, mint ($14.00)

smashed avocado on toast

The smashed avo, according to Craig, was a generous serving of avocado (always a tick in my book - if a cafe is going to charge an average of $16 for avocado on toast, it really should be worth that much avo). The cucumber was a different element from the usual, but it enhanced the dish with a crunch and refreshing flavour.

smashed avacado lime, mint, tomato, toasted black quinoa, goats milk feta, sourdough ($16.00)
