Oakover Grounds, Swan Valley
A good friend of ours was leaving to Europe for a whole month. Honestly was such devastating news for us considering we're pretty much at his house 5 days of the week... To bid him farewell, we decided to trek it east for some lunch to Swan Valley, Western Australia's oldest wine region.
Oakover Grounds is found neighbouring the only lake in the Swan Valley. Surrounding the winery and restaurant, you'll see beautiful lawns and widespread hectares of vines.
Lemon Lime Bitters ($4.80) and Freshly Squeezed Apple Juice (definitely not worth $4.20 in my opinion).
Chai Latte served in a take-away cup ($5.00).
HANDCUT CHIPS
Handcut chips, cheddar mayo ($6.00).
CHARCUTERIE PLATE
This was definitely more pricier than expected. The board was quite small considering the price, and barely any of us touched this too, which was a shame.
Charcuterie plate - baguette, potted pulled pork, chicken ham & pistachio terrine, apple & walnut chutney, chefs pickled vegetables ($30.00).
FRIED CHICKEN WINGS & SPICY MAYO SAUCE
Fried chicken wings, spicy mayo 10pc ($15.00).
CHAR GRILLED BEEF BURGER
Char grilled beef burger, tomato relish, bacon, cheese, lettuce mayo, pickle, chips ($25.00)
PULLED PORK BUN
I didn't even order this, but I was nibbling away at all the sweet potato crisps, (thanks Jen)! It was definitely different from the usual hand cut, thicker sweet potato fries, and had a cheesy taste to it as well. The pulled pork bun was also really tender, but of course like any other burger, the only problem is the mess you go through to eat it.
Pulled pork bun, sauerkraut, chipotle, sweet potato crisps ($22.00).
WARM LAMB SALAD
Upon looking online, I wanted to order the pumpkin salad, but that was no longer on the current menu, so I opted for the lamb salad instead. The lamb was quite chewy and was tough to eat, so I didn't enjoy this in particular.
Warm lamb salad, snow peas, roma tomatoes, mixed leafs, parmesan cheese ($22.00)
SWAN VALLEY VISUALS
The food at Oakover Grounds was average, and the food took quite a lot of time to come out. However, the atmosphere was absolutely lovely, and I would want to return just for the scenic views and the open, fresh space.
The view of the outdoor cafe.
Indoor section of the cafe.
The interior is gorgeous; an industrial style warehouse, where if I'd had known about this place earlier, would have chosen this as my 21st location. I love the rustic aesthetic.
